Lives and works between France and Montenegro

A graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-arts de Paris, Andréa Vamos uses photography and site-specific installation to develop an artistic approach based on duality. In the filigree of the thematic dyptics: death/life, natural/artificial, past/present, the relationship to the artist's dual French-Yugoslav identity structures her work.

The installations, which the artist characterises as "wild", i.e. without codes, on open, abandoned and/or natural sites, create an imaginary map of landmarks in space and time. Photography is both subject and medium in the works of Andrea Vamos, who experiments with two aspects: the image as a manifestation of memory and the image as a border between painting and photography. The artist's intention, through the superposition of cultural, artistic and temporal filters, is to question reality and its possible representation.

By harmonising abstraction and reality in the same frame, the artist invites the public to question its distance from reality and to actively participate in a form of introspection through the eye. To cross the image, to breathe through a work, such are the approaches of the artist during her exhibitions.

For several years, Andréa Vamos has felt a fundamental need to "call", that is to say to create in the territory of her origins, the former Yugoslavia. This artistic approach is a long-term one. In addition to working there, the artist has been exhibiting there for a year, and is continuing her programme with a solo exhibition in Novi Sad, European capital of culture in 2022, several solo exhibitions in Belgrade, and will be resident in 2023 as part of the Art Weekend Belgrade.
